Raise Children Who Follow God

Raise Children Who Follow God

Our goal as mothers is to raise children who follow God.

Happy Mother’s Day! What a wonderful day to celebrate the gift of motherhood. You can just kick your heels up and relax all day, right? Being a mom is the best job in the world until a day comes when it just isn’t. Some days it is downright hard. It can be overwhelming when we have to figure it all out on our own. Fortunately, since our children are a gift from God, He instructs us how to do it and do it well. God tells us in Titus 2:4, “so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children”. On the days when we’re not sure how much we like our kids, God still calls us to love them. We are able to love because He loved us first.

Right now, so many of us are having to be teachers as well as moms. How do we know if they are learning the right material? Deuteronomy 6:4-7 is our teaching manual.

Listen, Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Deuteronomy 6:4-7

Our goal as mothers is to raise children who follow God.

Can you imagine taking on this parenting task alone? Isaiah 41:10 says, “fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” What better way to face the day than knowing that God is right there with you to help you, to strengthen you and to uphold you. God has given you this responsibility, but He is there with you the whole way. Motherhood changes as your kids change, but it never stops and neither does God’s love, guidance and wisdom for us. In fact, He tells us in James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”

I pray that God uses motherhood to grow you to love Him more, depend on Him more and seek His wisdom more. As you turn to God in parenting, He will make you the mother that He wants you to be. Let me know how else I can be praying for you and your sweet family. I am anxiously looking forward to the day I can see you in church again. God is good all the time and all the time God is good.
