Encourage Those Closest To You

Encourage Those Closest To You

If you attended Life Team this last Sunday or printed off and used the Life Team Discussion Guide, you know that Pastor Marc stated that “God wants us to use His Word to encourage others this week”.  If you are staying home for the most part, due to COVID restrictions, that can seem like a difficult assignment.  If there is one good thing that has come from this virus, it is that we are constantly having to look at new ways to do things.  Hebrews 3:13 says, “But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”

So, as we look to encourage others with God’s Word, why don’t we start in our own homes?  The people closest to us, both physically and emotionally, probably need to hear some positive words from us, especially in the form of encouragement.

So, you may choose to encourage your spouse.  Or, you may choose to encourage your children. As the faith builder in the home, your children learn by your examples.  Pray and seek the Lord’s direction and wisdom in this.  You know where your child struggles.  You know your spouse’s weak areas.  Once you decide on an area in life to encourage them in, dig into God’s Word.  If you don’t know where to go, look at the concordance in the back of your Bible.  You can even Google it!  Just ask your phone for Bible verses about a certain subject.  Then get creative in sharing these truths.

You might share your encouragement from God’s Word with your family members by tucking a note with scripture into their lunchbox, backpack, or briefcase.  You might tuck it into the pocket of their clothing that day.  You might surprise them by taping it to their coffee cup or Diet Coke.  You might zip it in a baggie and tape it on the shower wall!  You might use a bar of soap and write it on their mirror.  You can always use a Post-it note too, if you don’t like fun messes.  Maybe try to write a verse of encouragement to be found each day this week!  One in a shoe, under their pillow, in their car, in their Bible, taped to their hairbrush, the sky is the limit to being an encourager in your home.  Have fun and allow God’s Word to lift the spirits of the people that live in your house.  Let’s start now!
