School Starting, New Schedules, Time For God

School Starting, New Schedules, Time For God

The start of a new school year can bring joy, dread, excitement, fear, and all kinds of other feelings.  School certainly changes our schedules.  Whether you have made the decision to homeschool your child, do online or virtual classes or send your child to school, our days are changing.  As parents, we set the pace in our homes for these changes.  We help our children create and abide by schedules that let everything be accomplished that needs to be done.  We allow time for daily brushing of their teeth, baths, eating of meals, schoolwork, homework, down time, family time, sports or extra activities, time for sleep and such.  Life can get busy quickly.  If we don’t create schedules, time can get away from us and we just wonder where it all went.

I would like to encourage you, as you begin to make these changes to your daily schedules, to remember the Lord.  It might seem like a given, but helping our children plan to set aside some time each day to seek the Lord’s face and spend time in His word and in prayer can change everything. It doesn’t have to be hours, but a few moments each day, dedicated to time seeking the Lord.  No one gets close to God on accident.  Jeremiah 29:13 states, “You will search for me. And when you search for me with all your heart, you will find me!” Isn’t this what we want for our children more than anything else?  To truly find and know God.

You have been called to be the main faith builder in the lives of your children.  If we expect and encourage and model that time with Jesus is needed each day of life, it can become a discipline that will help your child fall in love with and develop a personal relationship with Jesus.  Nothing could matter more.  Not school, not homework, not sleep or sports.  We, as parents, desire to raise children who love the Lord with all their hearts, souls, minds and strength, much more than raising children who know their math facts or can make a touchdown on the field.

Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.” Let’s help our children seek God first each day as we start this new school year.  I’m praying for you.
