Don’t Give Up

Don’t Give Up

Eighteen years. Eighteen long years, only they weren’t really that long. I just dropped my baby at college last weekend. How did that happen? Where did the time go? There sure were some really long days in there for his childhood to be over so fast. Wedding? Did someone say wedding? Yes, that’s right. If sending my baby off to college wasn’t hard enough, we are planning the wedding of my daughter. I never thought that my kids would grow up so fast. I also never thought that I would enjoy have adult children so much. It’s not always easy, but raising children is a true example of hard work paying off.

Galatians 6:9 tells us, “Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.” Here I am today as your cheerleader to remind you to not give up. It seems like there will always be another load of laundry to wash, another pile of Legos to step on and more meltdowns than you prefer. Don’t give up. You may wonder about all of the sleepless nights, sibling disagreements and spilt milk. Don’t give up. What about all of the meals to cook, the endless carpool lines and sports activities? Don’t give up.

Colossians 3:23 states, “Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people.” So when there is another load of laundry to wash, wash it as unto the Lord. When there are endless spills to clean and meals to cook, clean and cook for the Lord. When there are meltdowns and sibling fights, referee for the Lord. And at the end of the day when you are not sure what tomorrow will look like, pray to the Lord.

Embrace each day that the Lord gives you as a parent and most importantly as a faith builder in your home. What an awesome opportunity you have to shine the light of Jesus in your own family. Some days will be easier than others and some days you might feel like giving up, but then another day will come and another opportunity to love like Jesus in your own home. I am praying for you as you raise these little ones that God has called you to raise and I will be praying for you all along the way as they turn into adults. Enjoy the journey.
