Family. What does family look like to you? Do you have close relatives that live in the same town as you? Do you have to travel far to spend time with loved ones? Do you only see them on holidays? Or do you only see them when you have to? Does a phone call once a month seem like just enough contact? Family can look different for each of us. Families can be tricky.
It has been hard for me at times to go through life living far away from my parents and siblings. Fortunately God provided a second family for me to be a part of. Ephesians 1:5-6 says, “He predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.” Yes! Isn’t that exciting news? We are adopted. We are a part of God’s family. I have family right here, every day, readily available to me. I have family to laugh with and cry with. I have family to pray with and worship with. I have family right here at CrossRidge Church to help me carry my burdens and I get to help them too. Guess what? There’s more. You have another family too, right here at CrossRidge Church. Need prayer? Reach out to your CRC family. Need a ride to an appointment? Give a family member a call. Need a listening ear or wise counsel? We’re here for that too. Need a meal? I’m that sister! Unlike those family members that you only see once a year, we have a family reunion once a week on Sundays.
I am so thankful that we are family and that we get to do life together. I am so thankful that God loves us enough to adopt us into His family. I am so thankful for you, my brothers and sisters in Christ. See you Sunday!
