Salsa Sunday Success

Salsa Sunday Success

We see your Taco Tuesday and raise you a Salsa Sunday.

If we learned anything on February 5, we learned that people at CrossRidge are serious about salsa. From spicy to savory, 38 salsas battled it out for the glory of being crowned Best Salsa in one of three categories: red salsa, green salsa, or best overall salsa.

The first annual Salsa Sunday was nearly full to bursting with more than 250 people dining and fellowshipping in our Kids Church and Student rooms, which were beautifully transformed into Mexican restaurants. In addition to bringing homemade salsas, attendees generously provided homemade tacos, taquitos, enchiladas, empanadas, rice, beans, salad, guacamole, taco trimmings, desserts, and more. And the serious taco aficionados enjoyed authentic trompo de tacos al pastor!

Amid the sounds typical of a bustling restaurant, with kids playing and people chatting and laughing, the battle went down. Our brave judges, with stomachs of iron, no doubt, tasted all 38 salsa entries and awarded Maria Castilleja with Best Green Salsa, George Bewley with Best Red Salsa, and Laura Delsado took the prize for Best Overall Salsa. Congrats to the winners!

Salsa Sunday reminds us of the goodness of God in the simple things: the blessings of good food, good friends, and a church to call home. Thank you, Lord, for the common grace of salsa.

In true CrossRidge fashion, dozens of people helped make it happen. Special thanks to:

• Salsa judges Nena Silva, Diego Silva, Alfredo Benitez, Lizeth Castillo, and “Gus” for their time and expertise.
• Alfredo Benitez with Mi Luna Great Tex Mex restaurant in Prosper for donating rice, chips, beans, salsa, and tortillas.
• Jaun Gonzalez for serving trompo de tacos al pastor.
• CRC Spanish Ministry for decorating.
• Everyone who brought food and pitched in for setup and cleanup.
• Tums Ultra Strength.
