Introduce Them To The Bible

Introduce Them To The Bible

One of my favorite things to do at home is read my Bible. One of my favorite things to do at church is teach my preschoolers to read the Bible. I love to hear the excitement in their voices when they tell me that the Bible is God’s special book. I know it’s easy to think they are too young to understand, but now is the perfect time for your preschooler to fall in love with God’s word. It’s never too early to introduce the Bible. There are many ways to introduce a preschooler to the Bible. Here are a few ideas to try at home.

Read your Bible in front of your preschooler.  In the animal world, it’s monkey see, monkey do. Children watch our every move and they love to do what mom and dad do. Let them see you as you dive into God’s word. Tell them what you are doing and why. Show them the words and continually tell them that these words are from God. Be sure to keep your Bible visible so it becomes a part of everyday life, not just Sundays.

Get your child a Bible of their own. There are many Bibles available that are appropriate for preschoolers. How cool would it be to have your preschooler read their Bible while you are reading yours? It’s also great to use at bedtime to end the day. They never get tired of hearing the stories from the Bible.  Preschoolers also love to bring their own Bible to church. Teach them how to use their Bible so they will know the importance of His word.

Use Music! Preschoolers love to sing and dance. They love repetition. There are so many songs about the Bible and Bible verses that your kids will love. I am not going to lie, even as an adult, I was able to memorize the books of the Bible by singing a song with my own kids.

Thank God for His word. Teach your children to be thankful for the Bible. Psalm 119:11 tells us, “ I have treasured your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you.” Teach them that it contains messages straight from God and it is to be treasured.

Deuteronomy 11:18-19  says, “Imprint these words of mine on your hearts and minds, bind them as a sign on your hands, and let them be a symbol on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”  I would love to join you in this journey of teaching all of my little friends about the Bible. Together, let’s imprint these words on their precious little hearts. Let’s talk about God daily and show them how much His word means.
