Give Thanks In All Circumstances

Give Thanks In All Circumstances

I have been trying to develop a heart of gratitude in recent years.  I started with a Thanksgiving Journal.  It was a small notebook that I recorded three things I was thankful for each day for a year.

One year, I kept a running list on my computer of gifts from God that I was thankful for.  Another year, I did a study called One Thousand Gifts and kept a journal of things I was thankful for.  1,000 grew to over 4,000 gifts from God I was thankful for.  That year, my word of the year was Thanks Giving.  The next year, my word was Thanks Living.  I wanted to be the gift to as many others as I could.  Developing a lifestyle of thanksgiving, spills out to others!

I have found that complaining makes it impossible to give thanks.  I am not being thankful when I complain, as they are opposites.  God says in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 that we are to “…give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for us…”

I don’t always love what God allows to come my way.  But I have found, that if I truly trust Him and want to be found in His will, I must give thanks in all circumstances.  During this pandemic, many people seem very free with saying things are bad or with complaining.  I think we should strive to look for the good in every situation.  God uses the hard things in this life to grow us, grow our faith and grow our characters.  We can give thanks for this!  I would much rather be around someone who gives thanks than someone who complains.  Let’s encourage one another to be positive, thankful people in this world that is still controlled by Father God.  Things may be different now, but the end of the story hasn’t changed.

Maybe you can have each person in your family start a Thanksgiving Journal.  Dollar Tree has journals and stickers and such to get you started.  Let’s help our children, as we help ourselves, to give thanks in all circumstances!
