Children Are A Gift From God

Children Are A Gift From God

This is my favorite time of the year. The upcoming holidays are an obvious reason for me to excitedly turn my calendar to November, but there is another event that has me looking forward to this Sunday. CrossRidge Church routinely has two Baby/Parent Dedication Services each year. Of course, 2020 had to make things different, so this Sunday will be our only opportunity to have this service this year.

Hannah is the perfect example of recognizing that children are a gift from God. The perfect example of standing before God and giving Him the praise for this gift. We read her response to this gift in 1 Samuel 1: 27-28 when she says, “I prayed for this boy, and since the Lord gave me what I asked him for, I now give the boy to the Lord. For as long as he lives, he is given to the Lord.”

I’ll be honest, the thought of standing up and speaking in front of people may bring anxiety, but the opportunity to walk alongside families, love on their children and teach them about Jesus is so rewarding that it erases any anxiety that may come my way. I love seeing families stand before God and commit to raising their children His way. I also love seeing the church step up and accept their part as well.

Parenting can be a challenge. Fortunately, this role is a partnership with God. It is a time to call upon the Lord each day and use His strength as you accept this role to be a Godly parent. Your daily walk with Christ is the best example for your children. You are investing in your child’s life as they watch you pray, read God’s word and rely on Him daily. The church’s role is just as important. What a relief to know that you are not in this alone. The church is your village. We are here to support our families, love our families and point each other to Jesus. We are committed to our children and families and the opportunities for biblical teaching. I want to encourage the parents of little ones to hang in there. I want to encourage the church to hang in there. We will be serving on Sundays and Wednesdays again. We will have the chance to share Jesus with our little ones. We will get to love on them and laugh with them. In the meantime, pray for our families, pray for our ministries and pray for our church. Look for opportunities to encourage our families. Look for opportunities to encourage each other. We are all in this together.
