Be Like Zacchaeus

Be Like Zacchaeus

This week our children get to learn about Zacchaeus in Sunday School. I remember loving that Bible lesson as a child myself. I thought it was such a neat story about a wee little man. I loved the song about Zacchaeus too. I could just picture him walking and leaping and praising God. I love how the Bible is God’s living word that continues to teach us every day of our lives.

We can read all about Zacchaeus in Luke 19:1-10. There is so much we can learn and take away from these verses, even as adults. Zacchaeus did whatever it took to see Jesus. He didn’t let his short stature or the crowd get in the way. He did what he had to do to be in place when Jesus came by. What about you? Are you letting something prevent you from spending time with Jesus?

Zacchaeus obeyed Jesus. He was ready when Jesus told him to come down immediately. He was ready to obey when Jesus told him he was going to his house. Are you like Zacchaeus? Are you ready to obey Jesus? Are you ready to obey Him and welcome Him gladly into your life?

Zacchaeus was not distracted by the crowd. He didn’t let the people keep him from Jesus as they muttered about him and his sinful past. Do you keep your eyes focused on Jesus or do you let the world around you distract you from Jesus? Do you worry that your past will keep you from Jesus?

Zacchaeus was willing to change. He saw his need for Jesus. Luke 19:9-10 says, “Jesus said to him, ‘Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.’” Are you willing to change? Do you see your need for Jesus? Are you lost in need of a Savior? Jesus wants you to be like Zacchaeus. Jesus is seeking you. Jesus came to save you too.
