As You Go

As You Go

The Bible lesson for our preschoolers this week is about the Great Commission. Matthew 28:16-20 says, “The eleven disciples traveled to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshiped, but some doubted. Jesus came near and said to them, ‘All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’”

As adults, there are many ways to put that command into action as we go out to share the gospel. Mission trips all over the world have always been an important way to follow that command and go to all the nations. There are many places to go and share in our daily lives as well. You can share Jesus at your workplace, at the grocery store, on the ball field and in your very own home. Yes, as parents and faith builders in your home, you have the privilege of raising tiny disciples! In the Bible verse above it tells us to go and make disciples, but if you mix the words up a bit, it could say, make disciples as you go. As you go for walks, you can declare the beauty of God’s creation to your kids. As you go to ball practices and games, you can remind them how to love others, win or lose. As you go to take a meal to someone or volunteer at church, you can teach them how to serve others. As you go and spend time with God each day, you are teaching them how important God and His word are. As you go and take them to church, you are showing them the importance of being in God’s house with God’s people.

Discipleship doesn’t just happen on Sundays. Little ears hear and absorb so much in their daily lives. Little eyes see and observe the smallest details of their days. Teach them early how to give their time, talents, and treasures. Teach them daily what it means to grow, with alone time with God and with time with His people. Teach them often about a life of going out for Christ.
