Life can be hard. Life can be busy. There’s work and school schedules. There’s band practices and sports games. There’s birthday parties and playdates. We can’t forget the meals to cook and the laundry that is always waiting to be folded. Some weeks we feel like we can’t catch up and there’s not enough hours to get everything done. We are so happy when Friday rolls around, but before we blink Monday shows back up. Every week seems to get busier and busier. We have to make choices each week about what will get done and what will not get checked off the to-do list. We also have to choose how we spend our time.
As you make choices each week, I hope you choose church. As the baby spits up and the toddler throws a tantrum making getting out the door seem impossible, I hope you choose church. When you are super tired and just want to sleep in, I hope you choose church. When there is a birthday party at the same time, I hope you choose church. When the kids say they don’t want to come, I hope you choose church. When you feel empty and alone, I hope you choose church.
There are Sunday School teachers and friends waiting to see your kids each week. There are Bible lessons to be heard and prayers to be said. There are crafts to make and snacks to be eaten. And what about you? There are friends waiting on you too. There are worship songs to be sung and God’s word to be heard. There is preaching and encouragement. Most importantly, there is Jesus. He is there waiting on you and your family. He wants you there in church with His people. He wants you to bring those kids to church no matter what. Hair not brushed? Bring them anyway. In a grumpy mood? Bring them anyway. Outfit not perfect? Bring them anyway. Let them know that church is a priority. Let them know how important it is to be there. Let them know that eternity is at stake and they need Jesus.
Jesus said, ‘Leave the little children alone, and don’t try to keep them from coming to me, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’”
Matthew 19:14
