Summer Discipleship

Summer Discipleship

Do you know anyone who seems to know Jesus so well, that you wonder how that happened or if you might could ever know Him in that same manner?  There are people in our lives that we look up to and hope to grow up to be spiritually mature like them.  Well, I have some news, a true fact, “No one gets close to Jesus on accident.”  If you want to come to know Jesus in a very real way, you must search for Him.  You must spend time in His word and in His presence.  Jeremiah 29:13 says, “And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.”

Let me share an illustration.  If you and I were to meet for coffee every day for 20 minutes a day, for a year….at the end of that year, we would have come to know one another.  We might even be close.  We would know what new recipes we might would have tried, or what new show we loved, or if your kids had won their games, etc.  Through consistent time together on a regular basis, we would become close.  We would come to know one another.  It is the same with searching for Jesus.  One of the main ways God reveals Himself to mankind is through His written word, the Bible.  By daily, consistently, spending time reading God’s word and talking with Him in prayer, you come to know God!  And according to scripture, if you do it with all your heart, you find God.  This is not a hidden or magical thing.  It is falling in love with Jesus, one day at a time, by being exposed to His word and His presence.  The Bible is literally God’s words to us; you might say, the way He talks with us. We in turn respond back to God with our words in prayer.  This is a friendship, a meaningful relationship. We as parents can do this on our own, but we desire for our children to experience God in this way too.  They might need more guidance, encouragement, and accountability.

Therefore, here at CrossRidge Church, we offer a class for our students who have finished the 5th or 6th grade called the Club 56 Summer Discipleship Class.  We commit to spending time each day of the summer, seeking God.  Our desire is to come away, knowing Him more, loving Him more, and obeying Him more.  This is a class to help children take ownership of their own faith.  We literally see some children fall in love with Jesus over the course of the summer.  This 8-week class meets each Wednesday night of June and July (except while we are at camp). This class has daily work to be completed at home.  This class is work and this class is fun.  We play and study.  They develop Christian friendships with other believing children.  As the faith builder in your home, would you commit to sign your child up, bring them to each class and encourage them to do the work?  All of this, so that they might come to know Jesus in a fresh and real way.  Sign me up!
