What do you do in times of trouble? Who do you call on when you need strength? Life can be hard. Parenting is hard. Things can get complicated. Is it easier to try to go at it alone? Just a few weeks ago, I emphasized the importance of community. Reaching out to others is important, but calling out to God should be our first response in times of need. Psalm 46:1-3 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble. Therefore we will not be afraid, though the earth trembles and the mountains topple into the depths of the seas, though its water roars and foams and the mountains quake with its turmoil.” He is our refuge. He is our strength. He is always a helper in times of trouble.
I am just going to be real with you. This year has been hard for me, very hard. My family and friends have meant so much to me during an emotional two months of my life. But God! God has showed up each and every day to carry me through. Constantly God has whispered Isaiah 41:10, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand.” God has strengthened me. God has helped me. God has held me. This has made all the difference in the world.
So I will ask again. What do you do in times of trouble? Who do you call on when you need strength? When the world tells you that you can do things all on your own, I want to encourage you to turn to God. Call out to Him in times of trouble. Call out to Him when you are afraid. Call out to Him when you feel alone. He will be there and it will make all the difference in the world!
