Love One Another

Love One Another

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

John 13:34-35

God’s word tells us to love one another.  That seems fairly simple.  But love is more than a warm fuzzy feeling you have towards someone.  What does love really look like?  Love does.  Love is a choice.  Love is an action word.  Love is actually what shows the world that we are Christ followers.  God says that they will know we are His by our love.  Scripture tells us that love covers a multitude of sins; that means love extends grace.  Love forgives.  Love meets needs.  Love is being present when needed.  Love is speaking the truth kindly.  Love is compassionate.  Love is not rude.  Love never gives up.  Love is kind.  Love is a fruit of the Spirit.  Therefore, love is from God.  Love doesn’t keep a record of wrong.  Love shares.  Love comforts.  Love prays for others.  Love listens.  Love laughs with others.  Love cries with others.  Love accepts differences without judgment.  Love is patient.  Love protects.  Love is compassionate.  Love reaches out first.  Love sends that text.  Love doesn’t gossip.  Love respects.  Love hugs.  Love doesn’t brag.  Love isn’t jealous.  Love is safe.  Love isn’t selfish.  Love doesn’t get mad quickly.  Love always tells the truth.  Love puts the interests of others before your own. Love lasts.

This week, may we be found loving God and loving people.  May we love our spouses, our children, our co-workers, our neighbors, our church family, our extended family, strangers and even our enemies.  Jesus, our leader, set the example.
