Obituary for Raymond Erwin
Raymond Leo Erwin, 86, (formerly of Dallas) passed away Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020. He was born in Elida, NM on June 27, 1933, the eldest son of Lillian Haynes Paxton and Alvah Lee “Shorty” Erwin. While serving in the United States Air Force, Raymond met Barbara Jan Ballard of Fort Worth, and the two were married on Feb. 15, 1953. After completing his military service, he began his career at Underwood’s Bar-B-Q, and eventually became President of Dallas/Fort Worth’s many locations. In 1981, Raymond purchased the Garland Road location and started his own restaurant. Raymond’s Barbecue & Catering became a neighborhood favorite, with Raymond remaining at the helm until his retirement in 2003.
To put a beautiful finishing touch on their love story, Raymond entered the gates of heaven on the same date as his beloved wife – exactly three years apart. Along with Barbara Jan, he is now living out the reality of his faith as he is experiencing the unsurpassed joy of seeing the face of his precious Savior, Jesus Christ.
A devout Christ follower, Raymond served as a deacon and in missions at Casa View Baptist Church in Dallas. When Raymond and Barbara moved to Frisco in 2005, they began serving at Cross Ridge Church in Little Elm, continuing Raymond’s dedication to faithful servitude at his local church, where he constantly looked to be a blessing to everyone he met.
Raymond was a devoted and loving son, brother, husband, father, and friend. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jan; parents, Alvah Lee and Lillian Haynes Paxton Erwin Shepherd; and siblings, James Richard “JR” Erwin and Iva Erwin Roller.
